We woke up a bit later than we wanted today, but we were on the road by 8am headed for San Francisco. Instead of taking the Pacific Coast Highway to San Francisco, as I had wanted, we took I-5. This was because of the extraordinary amount of time it would take to make it to San Francisco using this route. We stopped at Garlic World in Gilroy to pick up some garlic and then continued through San Jose and Sunnyvale to arrive in San Francisco. Driving into the city was amazing! I never knew that the city had such a wonderful skyline. We went and parked on Lombard Street and took off on foot around the city. Our first stop was at the top of the famous Lombard Street to see it serpentine back and forth down the hill. We then walked down this way and headed to Fisherman’s Warf. Here we grabbed some clam chowder before heading to Ghierdelli Square on the way back to the car. After driving around the Golden Gate area and getting pictures of the bridge, it was off to Chinatown for more walked and dinner. Dinner here was quite excellent and we enjoyed it. After dinner we intended to camp out in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, but unfortunately they screwed up our reservation and we decided to find a hotel to stay in. Heading north for about 30 minutes, we finally found a reasonably priced one in Santa Rosa. The only thing I wanted to do in San Francisco that we didn’t get to do was to ride the cable cars. That’ll wait for another day though.
