It has been two years since my last major excursion to South America. I have wanted to travel to Peru to visit Machu Picchu for a long time. I finally decided to book tickets and make it happen. Well after I convinced my boss to give me two weeks off. Luckily he let me and I’m going to realize the dream I have had for years. I booked tickets to Lima as soon as I was able. Like most of my past trips I head out with only a rough idea of where I am going and when. This trip I did do a bit more planning though. I booked a room in Lima prior to my arrival as I was getting in at 1am. I also booked my plane ticket to Cusco ahead of time as well as a place to stay. This is where I will head out to Machu Picchu. This is the extent of my planning thus far.
The trip to Cusco was not bad. I had a layover in DFW where I got to have lunch with some friends. I got to the hotel in Lima at 230am. Luckily I was smart enough to book my flight for the afternoon. The problem with this is that I feel I have spent two days traveling and only seen airports. Upon arriving in Cusco I did head out to walk and see some of the city. As I write this I have an excellent view of the plaza and am enjoying a beer.
I am working to figure out my next moves while listening to some local music. I have much to see on this trip.
