The bike ride

After walking around Pucon, I knew that I wasn’t going to be able to just hang out in the town all afternoon.  I would want to go do something, even though I was quite tired (sleeping on a bus as nice as it was just didn’t cut it).  At my hotel I asked about tours or something and they recommended an outfitter for me.  I headed over there to see what they had available.  Unfortunately they didn’t have anything, but recommended that I rent a bike and bike to see some waterfalls.  While my legs were killing me from all of the walking the previous day, I thought that this would be something that I would enjoy.  They drew me a map and told me that it would be about 40 kilometers round trip.  Do you know how far that is?!?!?  I had a rough idea, but figured that I had 7 hours to do the trip and would enjoy seeing the waterfalls.  I got the bike and headed to the store to get some water.  I figured that 1.6 liters should be enough.  Unfortunately I underestimated how hot it was that day and was wishing that I had gotten more water.  The trip to the falls was along a dirt road through the mountains.  I was an awsome trip and I met two guys, one from England and the other from Germany, along the way and talked with them.  If it wasn’t for them, I don’t think I would have made it to the falls.  Actually I’m sure that I would have, but it would have just taken me a bit longer.  The guy from Germany said that the country side along the way reminded him of Austria.  Finally we arrived at the falls and I was glad for the break.  It ended up being a hot day and most of the riding was in the sun.  I wasn’t bright enough to put on suntan lotion before heading out, so I could feel myself getting burnt.  We spent about an hour at the falls and took numerous pictures.  The trip back would be a bit longer, but along a paved road so it should have been a bit easier.  Unfortunately the bike that I had was a piece of crap!  I’m not blaming my entire ride on the bike, I know that I’m out of shape, but the bike was too small for me and I couldn’t get the tires filled with as much air as I needed to.  The guys that I met ended up getting ahead of me, which was ok with me.  I was getting to a point where I was thinking about hitchhiking back to town when I came upon these roadside stands.  The first looked rundown, so I opted for the second one.  Unfortunately they were still building that one and it wasn’t open so it was back to the first one.  They had just what I needed though, some water and cookies!  After a much needed rest, I continued back to town where I returned the bike and headed to my room to take a nap.  I was going to go on a trip to the hot springs that night, but instead decided that I would take a much needed shower (my first since arriving, disgusting I know!) and get dinner.  It ended up being an early night for me anyway since I was beat from the ride and walking.
